In 1951, Thomas survived a serious car accident. He collided with another car before blowing past a fence onto the train tracks, overturning his car on the railroad.

The Pitts lived there until the deaths of Thomas and Katherine in 1957 and 1958 respectively. It was sold by Anthony F. Fauerbach in 1970 to Frank J. Maguire for $9,963. It was sold by Maguire in 1990 for $142,000.
